Dave and Sharon Holtz are your hosts at the Gesta Hús. Sharon (Solmundson) Holtz was born in the Solmundson home and grew up on Hecla Island. For more information on the history of the Solmundson’s go to our History page. Dave and Sharon came back in 1987 and with Sharon's brother Bob Solmundson they restored the family home. Dave is now a commercial fisherman. The Gesta Hús is a European style bed and breakfast with all the North American conveniences. The Gesta Hús is located in the Village on Hecla Island along the lake shore. Please visit Hecla Tourism to find out more information about Hecla Island. The Gesta Hús is situated on 43 acres of private property within the park, located next to the church at the north end of the historic Hecla village. The house features four guest rooms. You can sit on the verandah, in the gazebo, or in the outdoor hot tub to enjoy the view of the lake, to gaze at the stars and to enjoy the peace and quiet. You can also watch an extraordinary number of birds in the perennial gardens and fruit trees and watch various wildlife pass through the yard. Set in the heart of Lake Winnipeg, a little more than two hours north of Winnipeg, the province’s capital, Hecla Provincial Park contains some of the finest recreational lands in Manitoba. Rugged limestone cliffs, pelican and cormorant nesting colonies, vast marshes and forest and a thriving moose population share the island with remnants of the original Icelandic settlement and some of the finest boating and swimming waters on Lake Winnipeg.
